Young Volunteer Works Tirelessly for the Animals

By Caitlin Campbell, Community Outreach Manager

Jeremy has befriended and protected animals for most of his life and has volunteered for Brother Wolf as an animal caretaker since 2014. At just 16 years old, Jeremy is an inspiring role model for living compassionately. We’re so lucky to have his youthful energy and passion for the animals!

Though he has always considered himself an animal lover, Jeremy realized a couple years ago that the cats and dogs he loved to help at the Brother Wolf’s Adoption Center were incredibly similar to farmed animals. So, at the age of 12, Jeremy decided to go vegan by removing all animal products from his diet. His family has been supportive of his decision and have even altered their own eating habits.

Jeremy says he’s excited that Brother Wolf is embracing their ethics of Uncompromised Compassion by building the Animal Sanctuary in Leicester, NC. The Sanctuary, which we plan to open to the public later this year, will be a place of healing and learning for traditional companion animals like dogs and cats, as well as farmed animals.

“The idea that farmed animals are any less important than companion animals is purely emotional disconnect,” he says. “Most people have never met a farmed animal and don’t realize how similar they are to our dog and cat friends. Their lives matter just as much.”

Since making the connection, Jeremy has been a fantastic champion for the animals. He has five rescued animals of his own, and continues to be actively involved in local animal rights activism. He’s an advocate for all animals through public outreach and campaigning lawmakers.

We are thankful for volunteers like Jeremy, who are part of a movement to make Asheville and the world a more just, compassionate place for all animals.

Would you like to foster or volunteer to help Brother Wolf animals? Fosters and volunteers are truly the backbone of our organization and are an essential part of the work we’re able to do for the animals who need us most.
