It’s our Ten Year Anniversary!

Dear friend,

As I write this email to you, I do so with such a full heart- thinking back over the last 10 years at what we have all accomplished together.

What a journey it’s been!

Ten years ago I moved to Asheville with no intention of starting an animal rescue organization. I was an RN- just wanted to live my life inconspicuously, and volunteer to help animals in my free time.

Little did I know at the time that there was such a great need in our community- so many animals dying because too few resources existed to help them. Shelters still claiming that the people were part of the problem “If you just spay and neuter your animals- we won’t have to kill them.”

I couldn’t believe the paradigm that existed at that time- ten years ago. Deep down in my heart I knew that the people were not the problem- the broken system was the problem….

People must be the solution!

Brother Wolf is just that- a group of people who banded together to create change. We took animals into our homes, and sat outside local grocery stores with dogs in crates, trying to get them adopted.

We talked to people about our mission- to help build a No Kill community. And guess what? They got excited when we talked about it! We empowered them to help us. They became part of the solution- and soon, it went viral. Everyone wanted to get on board and help!

“We are all Brother Wolf.” I heard that once from a local guy in the community- he said that with tears in his eyes as we were helping his neighbor mend his fence so the dogs would stop escaping the yard. And it really resonated with me. He is right. Brother Wolf is not my organization. It belongs to all of us. Because we did this together.

As a mostly volunteer-based organization we have had so many victories for animals over the last 10 years – so much progress – yet, there’s still so much work to do for the animals.

As part of our year long celebration of our ten year anniversary, I encourage you to consider becoming a member of our Compassionate Circle. This special program is for anyone who chooses to support our work by becoming a monthly donor at the $10 per month level or more.

Our goal is to reach 1,000 monthly supporters by the end of May- because as you probably already know, we receive no government funding for our work. Brother Wolf is sustained and able to grow only because we are supported by kind individuals like yourself.

As a member of the Compassionate Circle you will have access to “behind the scenes” stories of the work we are doing at Brother Wolf- you can get a glimpse of this at

Again, I want to thank you for your support over the past ten years. None of this would be possible without you. After all, We are all Brother Wolf.

For the animals,
Denise Bitz
Founder and President
Brother Wolf Animal Rescue

P.S. At our ten year mark, I hope you’ll consider Brother Wolf in your estate planning- you can email for info.

P.P.S. Stay tuned for a Big Announcement about our sanctuary- exciting times for the animals and Brother Wolf!
